The Phenomena of The Hunger Games and Divergent It is quite common nowadays for novel to be made as movie. Actually, the phenomena of novels becoming books have started years ago. Famous novels like Bridget Jones’ Diary, The Notebook, The Lord of the Rings, and let’s not forget Harry Potter series are also successfully made into movies. But nowadays, there is this new phenomenon of The Hunger Games trilogy that often discussed. The cast directly becomes new idols of this generation. Who does not know big names like Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, or Liam Hemsworth? Everybody with technology must know them or at least heard of them. Following in that success path is Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth. The trilogy also comes from young-adult novels. Many people argue that both trilogy share similar characteristics despite there are also some things that differ them. The first similarity that Divergent and The Hunger Games has is they both achieve massive success. When it first released in 2012, The Hunger Games im mediately got top rank in the box office. The movie earned total of $691,247,768 worldwide (Wikipedia, 2012). The following year, its sequel, Catching Fire, came out in public. The trilogy continued its success even more proven by getting more earnings worldwide. Mockingjay, which is the last novel of the trilogy is scheduled to premiere separately in 2014 and 2015 because the director decided to split the movie into two parts.
